Requests for Information
The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), is a law that provides any person access to agency records, except to the extent that such agency records or portions of such agency records are protected from disclosure by one or more of the nine FOIA exemptions.
There are certain requirements for making a FOIA request, and in some cases, the records you are requesting may already be posted online. Prior to submitting a FOIA request, browse the NRC's FOIA Reading Room (FOIA Reports, Request Logs, and Closed Requests), ADAMS Public Documents and search the NRC's website for the information you are seeking.
Members of the public may use this portal to submit requests, or check the status of previously submitted requests, for information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and/or Privacy Act.
The NRC's FOIA program leverages this portal to ensure proper routing of requests, and to provide additional information to requesters during the processing of a request. By registering with this portal to file your request, you will:
- help minimize administrative delays,
- have access to your recent requests and their status,
- receive automated updates, and
- receive final released documents via the portal
You will only need to register with the portal once.
